BHM 2008 celebration concludes with concert at ACC

On February 21, 2008, the U.S. Embassy concluded its 2008 Black History Month celebration with a concert featuring renowned Nigerien singer/musician Mahamane Sani at the American Cultural Center.  Ambassador Bernadette M. Allen opened the festivities with a short discourse on the importance of music in African American history and the contributions of Black Americans to the development of the unique American musical tradition.  She then led the assembled guests in a rendition of the Black National Anthem, Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing.

Mahamane Sani’s musical program reflected a sampling of African American influences in American music, including rock-n-roll, rhythm and blues, and contemporary selections.
