U.S. Embassy Grant Empowers Women of Maradi
During a recent trip to Maradi (Niger’s economic capital) Public Affairs Officer Stephen J Posivak visited the site of a U.S. Embassy grant to the Rayaur Mata Islamic Women’s Association. The grant consisted of twelve sewing machines and sewing supplies, which were used to establish a training center for the association’s members to teach them marketable skills and improve their earning potential. This project will have a major and continuing impact on the economic self-sufficiency of women in Maradi, a major U.S. goal.
