U.S. Islamic Scholar Shares His Experiences On Islam In America

Imam Yahya Hendi, a respected religious scholar and Muslim chaplain at Georgetown University, traveled to Niger in June for a week-long program sponsored by the U.S. Embassy on Islam in America. Imam Hendi met with Islamic and traditional leaders, government officials, and media in the cities of Niamey, Tahoua and Maradi, and gave presentations on the American Muslim community and the practice of Islam in the United States. The Imam also addressed the social and political challenges facing Muslims around the world and the responsibility of religious leaders to encourage freedom and tolerance, and to combat extremism.
