On April 22, 2008 the U.S. Embassy’s American Cultural Center partnered with the Nigerien Journalists’ Network for the Environment for an Earth Day 2008 presentation entitled Climate Change and Food Security.  Featured presenters included  Katiellou Gaptia Lawan of the Nigerien National Meteorology Agency and Boureïma Alpha Gado, a lecturer at Niamey’s National University.

Acting Public Affairs Officer Richard Roberts, accompanied by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, chaired the opening ceremony. In his speech, Roberts encouraged the assembled audience to continue ongoing efforts to inform the general population about climate change concerns.
