WAKE 2008 Celebrates Women through Song

On March 28-29, 2008 the U.S. Embassy’s American Cultural Center continued its celebration of National Women’s History Month with the launching of the second annual Wake (pronounced wah-kay) Girl’s Music Contest in partnership with CFPM Taya, Niger’s national music institute.  The contest brings together female contestants from area high schools, who perform songs dealing with women’s issues and women’s empowerment.  Ms. Rabi Issoufou Mai Kano of College Soni took first prize in this year’s competition.
