Temporary Embassy Travel Restrictions
Dear Fellow American:
This Warden Message is being issued to alert U.S. citizens in Niger to a change in Embassy travel restrictions.
There have been no further landmine incidents since the ones in Tahoua and Maradi on Monday, December 12. As a result, the US Embassy in Niamey has lifted the travel restriction for areas in Niger directly east of Dosso - to include the towns of Birnin Konni, Maradi and Zinder. At the same time, however, the U.S. Embassy is now temporarily prohibiting all U.S.Embassy personnel from traveling to the city of Tahoua and all points north - to include the towns of Abalak, Agadez, Arlit, and Iferoune. This warden message will be updated as new information on the security situation on Niger’s roads becomes available or by Friday, December 21, 2007.
American citizens may contact the Consular Section of the US Embassy in Niamey for more information. The Consular Section, located on the Rue des Ambassades in Niamey, is open Monday through Thursday from 8am to 5:30pm, and on Fridays from 8am to 1pm. Telephone: 20-72-26-61/62/63/64; e-mail: ConsulateNiamey@state.gov. For after-hours emergencies, please dial 20-72-31-41.
