Temporary Embassy Travel Restriction December 21, 2007

 Update on Temporary Embassy Travel Restrictions

This Warden Message is being issued to alert U.S. Citizens in Niger to a change in  Embassy travel restrictions.

The U.S. Embassy in Niamey has lifted the travel restriction for the U.S. governement employees for the city of Tanout; however, the earlier restriction for official travel north of Abalak remains in place. This include travel to the towns of Agadez, Arlit, and Iferouane.

In addition, Peace Corps has temporarily restricted its volunteers and personnel from travelling to the town of Tanout (north of Zinder) after a recent security incident reportedly involving a landmine. American citizens planning travel to this area are urged to exercise caution.

American citizens may contact the consular Section  of the U.S. Embassy in Niamey for more information.The Consular Section, located on the Rue des Ambassades in Niamey, is open Monday through Thursday from 8am to 5:30pm, and on Fridays from 8am to 1pm.
